Abstract
1,172,586. Electrically heated rollers. BARMAG BARMER MASCHINENFABRIK A.G. 2 March, 1967 [22 Nov., 1966], No. 9863/67. Heading H5H. [Also in Division F2] To produce an even distribution of heat over the axial length of an electrically heated godet 14, the inner surface thereof is provided with one or more annular recesses 33 and 34, Fig. 4, or 37, Fig. 5. The godet 14, which feeds synthetic filaments, tapes or films wound about its outer surface, has a hub 1 screwed to a driving shaft 4 which extends through a bore in a mounting plate 6 fixed to a machine frame. In Fig. 4, induction coils 29, 30 are oppositely wound on solid or laminated annular core pieces 31, 32 fixed to the plate 6. The recesses 33, 34 concentrate the flux and hence the heat output increases towards their wider left-hand ends. The godet may have a chromium-plated copper covering (40, Fig. 4a) and may be mounted at both ends. Parts 27, 28 may have radial holes. In Fig. 5, a resistance element 36, in the form of a coil or band, is wound on an insulating annular member 35 fixed to plate 6 or the machine frame. Recess 37 is deeper at the right-hand end to impede heat transfer. A plurality of recesses (41, Fig. 5a) may be provided. The recess surface may be polished, roughened, coated, or grooved to vary the local reflection and absorption capacity. In both embodiments, the godet 14 has an end wall 18 provided with holes or in the form of spokes or blades, plate 6 has bores 19, and the hub has a grooved cylindrical wall 21 with bores 22 for the passage of cooling air. A disc 23 with fan blades 24 may be mounted on shaft 4. A temperature-responsive element 25 is connected to a thermostat.
