Abstract

117,246. Nielsen, R. H. May 13, 1918. Capillary - action, force-feed, and gravity-feed lubricating. -A device for lubricating the flanges of railway or tramway vehicles when rounding curves or for lubricating the rails or both, is operated by the lateral movement of a small wheel or roller 2, which runs along the track in advance of the wheel 13 to be lubricated. The roller 2 is mounted on a rod 1 pivoted to the vehicle at 9, and operates, through springs 5, a transverse bar 4 carrying lubricating-pads 7, which come into contact with the flanges 8 on one side or the other according to the direction of curvature of the rails. In place of the pads, the device may operate oil pumps or open valves supplying oil to the flanges or to the rails or both.
