Abstract
1,171,738. Metal-vapour lamps. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORP. 5 Sept., 1968 [27 Oct., 1967], No. 42307/68. Heading H1D. [Also in Division C7] The Hg-vapour pressure within a low-pressure Hg-vapour discharge lamp is controlled during operation by including in the lamp an amount of In-Sn alloy (e.g. In 95-Sn 5 by weight) such that the alloy combines with all the Hg when the lamp is de-energized and forms an amalgam consisting of In 71-91 atom per cent (62-86 wt. per cent) Hg 7-20 atom per cent (12-30 wt. per cent) Sn 2-9 atom per cent ( 2-8 wt. per cent) In the fluorescent lamp 10 shown, the control component 28 consists of a wire mesh collar 29 containing amalgamating alloy. Collar 29 is held on glass stem 16 (through which lead wires 18 pass to contacts 22) by ring clip 30.
