Abstract
1,171,300. Automatic circuit-breakers; snapaction mechanism. ALLEN-BRADLEY CO. 13 Sept., 1966 [20 Sept., 1965], No. 27432/69. Divided out of 1,171,297. Heading H1N. In an automatic circuit breaker the manual actuation and reset mechanism comprises a pair of push buttons 87, 88, Fig. 4, in a casing 6 for attachment to the contact casing and operating to rock a pivoted member 64 connected by a pair of coil springs 70 to the knee pin 72 of toggle links 65, 66 which are connected to the contact carrier at pin 67. In the " on " position (shown) the knee pin 72 is restrained to the right against a lever 96 normally held fixed by the automatic circuit-breaker mechanism. In moving to the "off" position, Fig. 6a, the spring 70 moves over-centre of pin 68 and pulls the pin 72 to the left whereby the links 65, 66 snap upwards to retract the switch contact carrier 3 assisted by carrier return spring units (52, Fig. 1, not shown). A snap-action return reinforced by spring-straining is obtained, when switching on, by means of a spring-loaded lever 75, 78 having an end 77 which latches the knee pin 72 in the " off " position and restrains the return movement until the force in the springs 70 is substantial. Should the springs 70 fail, manual retraction of the contacts is obtained by engagement of a leaf spring 94 on the actuator 64 with the toggle links 65 whereby they are forcibly moved to the left to raise the knee-pin 72. Overload current circuit breaking mechanism operating through relay actuator arm 101 and pin 98a to release trip lever 96 supporting the links 65, 66 is described in Specification 1,171,299.
