Abstract

1,171,019. Missile directing system. BRITISH HOVERCRAFT CORP. Ltd. 18 July, 1968 [27 July, 1967], No. 34665/67. Heading F3C. A missile directing system is combined with a guided missile carried by and launched from a vehicle, the system comprising a sight 25 through which the aimer views a target and the guided missile during its flight to the target and a support for the aimer. The support and sight 25 form a unitary structure to substantially eliminate relative movement between the eyes of the aimer and the eyepiece of the sight and the support comprises a shock-absorbing means. The directing system may be on the same vehicle as the guided missile and the vehicle may be operated on land, water or be amphibious, e.g. an air cushion vehicle. The support comprises a seat 19 mounted on a platform 18 by a spring device consisting of struts 20 and a torsion spring (not shown), the platform being connected to the sight through members 22, the upper parts of which are interconnected by three damped suspension units 21. The suspension units 21 are also connected to an inner ring 14 which is rotatably mounted in an outer ring 12. The platform is supported from the inner ring by struts 17.
