Abstract

In an advancing mine roof support assembly comprising two frames 1, 3 interconnected at their bases 5A, 5B to permit relative vertical movement at least between their front ends and each connected by an advancing jack 35, 36 to a conveyor 30 for limited relative sideways movement therebetween, the base of each frame is provided with a guide surface 33A arranged to co-operate with a guide 31 on the conveyor to guide the unit into a predetermined position relative to the conveyor. The bases 5A, 5B are interconnected by a pivoted bar 18 and by a metal plate 11 having lugs 12 secured by a pin 13 to brackets 9, 10 carried by the bases to which side shields 16 are also bolted. A third, central frame 4 is also provided which has an advancing jack 45 and is steered into position by tapered plates 53, 54 bolted to the bases 5A, 5B. The front of the roof bars of the frames 1, 3 are interconnected by a pivoted bar which may be provided with rollers to facilitate advance of the central roof bar, whilst a flushing shield is suspended from the rear of the roof bars, see Fig. 1b (not shown). For modified interconnection between the advancing rams and the conveyors and for modified interconnection between the central and outer frame unit Fig. 3 (not shown), of Prov. 13039/66 Specification 1170246 and Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), of Prov. 45411/66 Specification 1170246 should be referred to. Again, the plate 11 may have brackets welded thereto and provided with elongated slots for attachment by means of pins to box-like extensions mounted on the bases 5A, 5B, see Fig. 4 (not shown). The roof bars of the outer frames may be interconnected by a roof bar having a resilient connected thereto to facilitate lowering, see Fig. 5 (not shown).
