Abstract
1,169,772. Organosilicon sulphoxides. DOW CORNING CORP. 13 Feb., 1967 [23 Feb., 1966], No. 6727/67. Headings C3S and C3T. The invention comprises an organosilicon sulphoxide consisting of (A) at least one unit of the general formula and (B) any remaining units being of the general formula where R is a divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, R<SP>1</SP> is a monovalent hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon radical, R<SP>11</SP> and R<SP>111</SP> are each hydrocarbon, halohydrocarbon or a hydrolysable radical, n = 0-3, m = 0-3 and (A) and (B) do not have any Si-halogen bonds. The compounds may be prepared by oxidation of the corresponding sulphide with a stoichiometric amount of an aqueous solution of an oxidizing agent such as H 2 O 2 , dimethyl sulphoxide, a permanganate, a dichromate or a nitrate, in the absence of acid and at room temperature. The reaction may also be conducted under anhydrous conditions using ozone or N 2 O 4 as oxidants, whereby hydrolysable functions are not affected. The preparation of in aqueous solution and in anhydrous conditions, are given in the examples.
