Abstract

1,168,901. Roller shutters. K. MACK. 16 Jan., 1967 [17 Jan., 1966; 7 Feb., 1966], No. 2223/67. Heading E1J. In a roller shutter in which the slats 3 are subjected to a relative sliding transverse movement and a turning movement by being carried by alternate links 2 of a chain movable in lateral guides, which chains can assume a zig-zag formation when the shutter is slackened with its lower end at rest, each of the links 2 has scrolls 6 at its ends which interengage with the scrolls 6 of adjacent links to permit articulation of the links about the scroll axes, the link 2 being such as to be capable of wedging in the guides when turned too fast haying stops 7 to limit such articulation of the links towards the zig-zag formation, and the links 2, 1 and slats 3 are connected by plug-in type connections 4. The slats 3 may be formed from sheet metal 9 or from plastics material with a sheet metal covering strip. As shown in Fig. 1 the strip 9 has along one longitudinal edge a plastics material strip 10 secured thereto by an edge groove 11 along one edge and with a noisedamping sealing strip 19 along its other edge and with end recesses for accommodating the legs of a plug type connector with opposing legs which fit into the scrolls 6 of the smaller links 2 and when the chain is in the zig-zag condition, allows light and air between the slats. Alternatively the slat 9 may have a longitudinally projecting tongue which plugs into the scrolls of the larger links 1, or the links may have a projection which plugs into correspondingly shaped tubular elements on the ends of the slats and may be rivetted screwed or otherwise fixed together, this arrangement allows air and diffused light between slats. The slat may be in two longitudinal parts (221', 221" Fig. 9) which fit together by a snap action, and may be provided with air spaces between the cover strip 9 and the plastics slat and/or with ribs for heat dissipation. The sides of the guide channels are provided with resilient loose linings which give to the chain links when turned into horizontal position.
