Abstract

1,168,757. Polyvinyl alcohol. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 9 Sept., 1968 [9 Sept., 1967], No. 42802/68. Heading C3P. The continuous alcoholysis of polyvinyl acetate is effected by applying a homogeneous mixture of a solution of the polymer in methanol with an alkali methylate catalyst to an endless belt conveyer which is coated with a polyolefin to prevent the mixture sticking. This is of particular value where the alcoholysis is incomplete.
