1,168,451. Packaging-machines; containers for inter-reactive materials. KOBERLOY Inc. 25 Oct., 1966 [1 Nov., 1965], No. 47931/66. Headings B8C and B8D. Capsules.-A container or capsule for materials which must be kept separate during storage, e.g. dental amalgam components but which enables the components to be mixed within the container, includes three portions, two of which form a cell for one component and the third containing the other. One component, 300 is placed in a cap element 251 and an intermediate member 230 screwed in, a spigot 253 on the cap co-operating with the rim 235 of the member 230 to form a closed chamber. The third portion 310 now receives the other component 310 and a pestle 320 and is capped by the joined first and second portions. In use, the portion 250 is unscrewed sufficiently to release the component 300 into the third portion 210. Filling apparatus.-A series of capsule component holder bars 90 is mounted on chains 70 for intermittent movement beneath a volumetric filler 100. The bars each have a line of apertures into which, initially, the members 250 are placed manually or by bowl feeder (not shown). The filler comprises a container 130 with apertures 135 in the base covered by an apertured slide 166. The latter may be interchangeable to vary quantities. The slide moves from a receiving position as shown to a position where the material is discharged through apertures 171-176 into the members 250. The members 230 are manually or power applied (not detailed) and the so formed units removed. The same means is used for filling the members 210 and the units are then applied to them to complete the capsules.
