Abstract

1,168,211. Rake-lifting mechanism for sedimentation apparatus. DORR-OLIVER Inc. 22 Jan., 1968 [26 Jan., 1967], No. 3237/68. Heading BID. A rake structure 26-28 is rotatable in a continuously operating sedimentation tank by a central cage portion 25 secured to an annular bull gear 29 driven by means (35), (36) (Figs. 4-6, not shown) mounted on a turntable support base 22 whose weight is borne by a base 14; the device is characterised in that the turntable support 22 can be raised or lowered (together with the rake, structure) by means 47, its vertical movement being guided by at least three vertical columns 19 secured to a hollow pier 13 within cage 25. As described, an annular gear 29 rides in an annular oil trough 30 and is driven by pinions (37). Various bearing blocks (42), (57), (60), (61) engage columns 19, to take the reaction torque see Figs. 4, 7 (not shown). Turntable support 22 has a lower extension 54 engaging columns 19 at 55 to give anti-tilting stability. Feed flows in at 53 and sediment is raked into trough 15. In a modification (Fig. 9, not shown) the vertical guide columns are outside the hollow pier and do not extend down to the base of the tank.
