Abstract

1,168,062. Biocidal emulsion containing pentachlorophenol and wax. MOBIL OIL CORP. 29 Jan., 1968 [28 March, 1967], No. 4526/68. Heading A5E. A biocidal composition comprises an "oilin-water" wax emulsion containing pentachlorophenol in the wax phase and an amine salt of a fatty acid as emulsifying agent. The wax is preferably a paraffin wax and the emulsifying agent, which is suitably formed in situ may be the triethanolamine soap of stearic acid or N-octadecyl 1,3-propylene diamine acetate. Optionally an aromatic solvent for the pentachlorophenol may be present. Other biocides also may be included, e.g. chlorinated hydrocarbons, thiocyanates, organic phosphorus compounds, pyrethrins, rotenone and piperonyl butoxide. The compositions find application in the protection of cellulosic materials such as wood, paper, cotton and press board.
