Abstract
1,167,693. Preparation of methylenebisiminodiacetonitrile. W. R. GRACE & CO. 31 Jan., 1968 [15 Feb., 1967], No. 5059/68. Heading C2C. Methylenebisiminodiacetonitrile is obtained by mixing iminodiacetonitrile not prepared in situ with formaldehyde or a formaldehyde yielding material in the presence of an aqueous acid solution. The reaction, which may be effected batchwise or continuously, is suitably carried out at 0-100‹ C. employing stoichiometric amounts of the reactants. The formaldehyde employed may be commercial formaldehyde or it may be formed in situ from a formaldehydeyielding material; the acid employed in the aqueous acid solution is preferably a strong mineral acid such as sulphuric nitric or hydrochloric.
