[Also in Divisions B8 and H5] A low inductance induction heater for providing a high-frequency field includes a non- metallic metal member in which a field is induced on energization of the H.F. coil, said field reinforcing the coil field only in the area occupied by the workpiece. In Fig. 4c, two plastics, paper, &c. sheets 14, 16 with an iron oxide susceptor 18 are sealed by a H.F. singleloop coil 41 and a metal member 46. Coil 41 and member 46 are fluid cooled and member 46 applies pressure during sealing. In another form (Fig. 2) the metallic member (20) is wedgeshaped, and the sheets are located in a wedgeshaped insulating support (10). In a further form (Fig. 3), the heater seals two container halves (32, 34) and the metallic member comprises two plates (28, 30) located inside the container. The metallic member is of silver, copper or brass, and may be electrically isolated or grounded.
