A former 10 used in a method of corrugating and vulcanizing a rubber tube has a space 12 connected by passages 26 to the shaping surface 18 so that when a rubber tube 20 to be shaped is placed over the surface and secured by clips 28 the space is completely sealed. The assembly is then subjected to a curing medium, e.g. steam, at suitable temperature and pressure to shape and vulcanize the tube. A former is described for forming depressions in a flat rubber sheet, and comprises a flat surface with depressions to which the sheet is sealed, and the depressions are connected by passages to a sealed chamber.
