Abstract
1,167,005. Electric primers. DAVEY BICKFORD SMITH & CIE SOC. ANON. FRANCAISE ETABS. 12 Sept., 1967 [17 March, 1967], No. 41605/67. Heading F3A. A delayed action electric primer which will not ignite ambient gas comprising a metal tube 1, e.g. of copper, containing an ignition charge 6 with electrical ignition means connected to electrical leads 8 passing through a plastics plug 7; a retarding charge 4 contained in a metal tube 5 which will withstand the effects of the explosion of the retarding charge; a primary charge 2 e.g. of tetryl; and a cylindrical component 9 formed with an axial passage having a cylindrical portion 10 and a frusto-conical portion 11 filled with a priming charge 3, e.g. of lead nitride, the component 9 being constituted by polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene or another plastics material having a plasticity sufficient to enable it to absorb the shock of the explosion of the priming and primary charges and thereby preventing the tube 5 from bursting and projecting incandescent slag to the outside.
