Abstract

1,166,529. Handles. VOLKSWAGENWERK A.G. 14 Dec., 1967 [21 Dec., 1966], No. 56794/67. Heading A4U [Also in Division E2] In a car door handle 2 rigidly mounted at each end over a recess 1 in the outer door surface and having a housing 5 for a locking cylinder 7, lockable to prevent unlatching, a double-armed lever 9 for unlatching a catch when the door is not locked is pivoted at 10 to be partly within the handle, the arm 9a acting through a transmission linkage 8 to unlatch when hand pressure is applied to the arm 9b to move it into the handle. The lever arm 9a is urged against a stop surface in the handle 2 by a spring coiled about the pivot axis 10 which is close to the centre of gravity of the lever, and is forked, a limb of the fork passing on each side of the housing 5 so that a standard handle is usable on right and left hand side doors and with lever of different lengths for different door widths. In a modification the lever arm 9a is not forked.
