Abstract

1,166,277. Control of D.C. motors. LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGS - G.m.b.H. 2 Nov., 1966, No. 49222/66. Heading H2J. A switching device 10 through which a D.C. load such as a motor 1, 2 is supplied from a D.C. source U = is controlled by a device 5 which switches it on and off according to the difference between the actual current (measured at 4) and the sum of two "desired value" inputs to 5, namely a basic one derived from a potentiometer 6 and a variable one which is dependent upon the relative on/off time of the switching device. This variable reference is derived from the average voltage across the switching device. The object is to permit a higher load current when the on/off ratio is low than would be safe when the ratio is high. The variable reference is applied via a diode 17 and transistor 19 which is arranged so that the variable reference is only effective when it is less than the basic reference from potentiometer 6. The switching device comprises a thyristor 11 and a commutating thyristor 12, capacitor 14 and choke 15.
