Abstract
1,166,093. Ingot strippers. CHEPOS, ZAVODY CHEMICKEHO A POTRAVINARSKEHO STROJIRENSTV OBOROVY PODNIK. 21 Oct., 1966 [22 Dec., 1965], No. 47153/66. Heading B3F. An ingot stripper has pivoted tongs 10 and an ejector ram 9 which are operated hydraulically by the relative movement of parts of the stripper as it is raised and lowered, e.g. by a crane. As the stripper is raised by way of its shackle 1 connected to a main piston 3, the main cylinder 5 and the rest of the device (connected to it and clustered round it although depicted in Fig. 3 as spread out) descend under gravity, forcing fluid above the piston 3 through a distributing valve 15 to two auxiliary cylinders 13 to open the tongs 10. The diagrammatic Fig. 3 gives, for clarity, a double view of the single mould 20 and ingot 21. The stripper is lowered over the mould until the ejector ram 9 is pushed into its cylinder 7 by the ingot. A guide bar (17), Fig. 1 (not shown), connected to the shackel (1), operates the valve (15) to turn it through a right angle and pressure is thereby released from the auxiliary cylinders 13 so that the tongs 10 are lowered to engage the mould lugs. The stripper is then raised and its weight with that of the mould forces fluid from the cylinder 5 (there is a non-return valve 4 on its piston) into the cylinder 7 to force out the ram 9 and eject the ingot 21, Fig. 4 (not shown). When the mould 20 is lowered, continued lowering of the stripper causes the valve 15 to be operated again to return to the position shown and lifting causes the tongs to open and release the mould. In another embodiment, Figs. 5-8 (not shown), the tongs are of scissor form and grip the protruding head of an ingot, there being two rams acting on the mould instead of on the ingot.
