Abstract

1,165,631. Measuring vibrations electrically. KHARKOVSKY FILIAL INSTITUTA AVTOMATIKI. Feb.14, 1967, No.7029/67. Heading GIN. Absolute vibrations of a body are measured by an inductor whose inductance or Q factor is varied by vibration of the body. The inductor is connected in a tuned circuit connected to amplitude modulate the output from an oscillator and is mounted by resilient spring means from a second body so as to be substantially stationary in an inertial frame of reference. As described, an inertial mass 2, Fig. 1, is supported by springs 3 in a cylindrical casting 1, 4, which may be filled with a viscous liquid, and which is fixed on the stator 10 of a stator, rotor system. Vibrations of the rotor 11 are detected by inductor L connected in series with capacitance C coupled to an oscillator (13, Fig. 2 not shown). The amplitude modulated signal from the series resonant circuit LC is converted by circuit 16 to a 1.f. signal indicative of the amplitude and frequency of vibration of the rotor 1 which is fed via resistor 17 and h.f. choke 18 to amplifier 19 and meter 20. Vibrations of the stator are additionally detected by an inductive transducer 8 comprising a coil 12 on the mass 2 and a magnet M on the housing 4 which vibrates with the stator.
