Abstract
1,165,396. Reciprocating conveyers. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 2 Feb., 1968 [21 Feb., 1967], No. 8314/67. Heading B8A. [Also in Division F4] Apparatus for moving a line of metal billets B1-B10 through an induction furnace 15 comprises a fixed support 17, a movable skid 19 thereupon supporting the billets, pusher mechanism designed, firstly to push a new billet B11 into the furnace moving leading billet B1 on to the exposed length Y of support 17 (Fig. 2), and secondly to push skid 19 forward, discharging said billet B1 down shoot 63, Fig. 3, and a counterweight 53 to move the skid back to its original position. Action is initiated by a signal from a temperature-sensitive device 65 sighted on the first billet B1 or by a timer. On receipt of the signal, push rod 25 is moved by hydraulic motor 29 to propel new billet B11 into contact with the row of billets and to propel the latter forwardly until leading billet B1 is pushed on to support 17. At this point, represented by the distance X, Fig. 1, a collar 27 on rod 25 engages a flange 41 on control mechanism 31 slidable on a fixed rod 33 and attached by a tube 35 with flange 37 to the skid 19, whereupon the latter is moved forward to discharge billet B1. Flange 37 strikes a limit switch 67, Fig. 3, reversing the ram 25 and thus releasing flange 41. The control mechanism 31 is then drawn back on rod 33 by counterweight 53 to its original position against a stop 61. Variable billet lengths are allowed for by varying the distance X by relative adjustment of the telescopic sleeves 35 and 39 on the rod 33. To this end an abutment 45 on flange 41 has a threaded rod 47 having arms 47A riding in slots 49A in a tube 49 rotated by a hand wheel 51.
