Abstract

1,164,368. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. THIMONNIER & CIE. 31 Oct., 1967 [8 Nov., 1966], No. 49369/67. Heading B5K. A welding machine for making bags or sachets from plastics material comprises a welding jaw 15, a welding resistor 24, a resilient packing 27 disposed between the jaw and the resistor, and a strip 25 of thermally conductive material having a thickness of from 0À01 to 0À5 mm. located between the resistor and the packing. The machine for simultaneously transversely welding and cutting a flattened thermoplastic tube 29 or two thermoplastic sheets comprises two copper jaws 14, 15 provided with heating resistors 20, 24, respectively, interposed between layers 18, 19 and 22, 23 of glass cloth impregnated with polytetrafluoroethylene. The resistor 24 is provided with a V-section portion 24a to simultaneously cut and weld the tube 29. The strip 25, e.g. made of copper, is positioned between the layer 23 and a further layer 26 of glass cloth impregnated with polytetrafluoroethylene applied over a silicone rubber block 27 fitted into the jaw 15. The jaws 14, 15 are cooled by a liquid passing through ducts 28. The strip 25 cools the resistor 24 and the layer 22 rapidly after cutting and welding. The layer 22 is wound on rollers 30, 32 so as to be adjustable for wear. The jaws 14, 15 are positioned between clamps 33 movable by jacks 35, Fig. 2, which also move the jaws 14, 15. An adjustable spring 36 is interposed between an extension 37- of one jack 35 and the jaw 15 so as to delay the clamping action.
