Abstract
1,164,131. Bridge-carrier fuses. SIMPLEXGE MFG. Ltd. 2 Feb., 1967 [1 March, 1966], No. 8826/66. Heading H2G. A fuse holder assembly comprises a base 10 (Fig. 1) and carrier 11 assembled together to define a fuse chamber 12, the carrier having terminals 25, 26 for electrical connections to the fuse element and contact members 24 electrically connected to these terminals, and the base having contact members (53), (Fig. 2, not shown), for respective connection to the contact members of the carrier, connected to terminals (45) on the base to enable the fuse element to be electrically connected to an external circuit, the carrier being provided with a portion 27 for supporting a length of fuse wire such portion and the carrier terminals being arranged to allow, alternatively, a cartridge type fuse element to be accepted by the carrier. The member 27 is supported on extensions 25a. When a cartridge fuse 39 (Fig. 6) is used connection to the terminals 26 is made by L-shaped members 42 secured to the end caps 41 of the cartridge. The carrier 11 has a separate releasable insulating cover 30 with a central hole 36 aligned with a hole 19a in the carrier body through which the condition of the fuse may be observed. The cover which also indicates the fuse rating is attached to the carrier, by resilient studs 38 and covers the terminal securing screws 21. The terminals 25 and contacts 24 may be formed as a unitary structure of either brass or copper. The contacts 24 are U-shaped. The base 10 contains openings 63 in the end walls (or knockout portions) to allow entry of a conductor (65), (Fig. 10, not shown) which is clamped to the terminal by a screw 49. Pockets 58 and guideways formed by ribs 60 are provided to accommodate closure or partial closure members (62 and 64). An insulating shield 68 covers the terminals 45 and is held in releasable engagement by shoulders 74 and guideways formed by ribs 70. The base and carrier may be held together by a clip 92. Conductors (80) may be introduced through the bottom of the base (Fig. 11, not shown), the external parts of these conductors being insulated by ferrules (81). A modification (Fig. 12, not shown), provides alternative means for introducing such conductors. During withdrawal of the carrier from the base access to the live parts inside the assembly, by way of the fingers, is prevented due to constraints caused by co-operating parts (Fig. 7, not shown).
