Abstract
1,164,089. Reciprocating generators. BRAUN A.G. 14 March, 1968 [16 March, 1967], No. 12373/68. Heading H2A. A spark generator comprises a pair of soft iron members 1, 2 separated at one end by an air gap 33 and linked adjacent their opposite ends 11, 21 by a permanent magnet 4, the intermediate parts of the members being surrounded by high- and low-voltage coils 5, 6 respectively. Movement of an armature 100 into engagement with the ends 11, 21 shorts the permanent magnet and produces a rapid flux change from the circuit via gap 33 to that via the armature. At the same time a nose 9 on the armature opens a short-circuiting switch 8 across the coil 6 thereby interrupting the circulating current induced by the flux change and producing a high-voltage spark at the gap 51 across coil 5. The magnet 4 may be located below the coils 5, 6 (Fig. 9, not shown) and instead of the gap 33 a second armature (300) (Fig. 6, not shown) may bridge these ends of the members 1, 2 and be moved out of contact therewith by the armature 100 as it contacts the ends 11, 21.
