Abstract

1,163,998. Motor vehicle bonnet hinge. AUTOMOBILES M. BERLIET. 10 May, 1967 [27 Dec., 1966], No. 21652/67. Heading E2F. A mounting hinge for automobile bonnets, providing balancing and combined pivoting and translation of the bonnet, comprises an angle member 1 secured to the bonnet by means of bolts in slots 2, and having an integral toothed sector 4. Pivoted to this sector by a rivet 5 with a distance piece are two identical parallel link members 6 having cam shaped lower ends, 6'. A pinion 8 is rotatably mounted on a pin 7 between the links so that it engages with the teeth of the sector 4. A bracket 9 secured to the body of the vehicle 'by bolts through the holes 10 has an integral toothed sector 11, which carries a pivot pin 12 on which are pivoted the lower ends of the links, so that the pinion 8 also engages the teeth of this sector. The bracket 9 also carries a tube 14 welded into a notch, the tube enclosing a coil spring 15, surmounted by a slidable disc 16 and based on a screw plug 17 in an internally threaded portion of the tube. A bent lug 18 on the bracket 9 limits the movement of the angle member I when the bonnet is closed, and of the link 6 when open. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 11, the toothed elements are replaced by a flexible connecting element, such as a roller chain, secured between the pivoted end of the angle member and the upper edge of the bracket member, and disposed over a plain (untoothed) sector on the rear of the angle member so that it is wound thereon, and tensioned by compression of the coil 'spring as the hinge closes. Another form of the latter embodiment, in Fig. 16 (not shown), employs a tension spring anchored between the link member at .the extreme lower point of the cam shaped portion, and the bracket member.
