Abstract

1,163,878. Granulating metals. NORDDEUTSCHE AFFINERIE. July 1, 1968 [July 18, 1967], No. 31340 /68. Heading C7X. Molten metal e. g. aluminium is atomized by jets of steam 4, the steam extracted by a vacuum filter 6 and the metal powder fed to containers 11a, 11b, the whole operation being carried out under conditions which prevent the condensation of the steam. The apparatus may be insulated or heated or both, and superheated steam may be used. The steam extracted at 8 is condensed at 14. Air may be mixed with the steam to give a mixture containing not more than 2% by volume of oxygen. The containers 11a, b are filled with an inert gas before filling with the powder. The apparatus is scavenged with dry steam, when the process is started or finished.
