Abstract

1,163,502. Polyamine condensates; curing epoxy resins. RUTGERSWERKE UND TEERVERWERTUNG A.G. 8 Jan., 1968 [12 Jan., 1967], No. 988/68. Headings C3B and C3R. Cycloaliphatic polyamines, e.g. 1 - amino - 3- aminomethyl - 3,5,5 - trimethylcyclohexane, are reacted with a mono- or poly-hydric, mono- or poly-nuclear phenol in the presence of an aldehyde, e.g. formaldehyde, or a substance which yields formaldehyde under the conditions of reaction. The products are useful in curing epoxy resins at room temperature. Suitable phenols are: phenol, cresol, xylenols, resorcinol, hydroquinone or bisphenols. In examples, the condensation reaction is carried out by adding aqueous formaldehyde to a mixture of the polyamine and phenol at temperatures up to 100‹ C.
