Abstract
1,161,325. Making commutators. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. 20 Sept., 1966 [23 Sept., 1965], No. 41906/66. Heading B3A. [Also in Division H2] A commutator is made from a copper bar 10 which has a longitudinal notch 11 on its upper side and is stamped on its underside to form segments 13 connected by bridges 14, part of each segment being separated and bent upwards to form connecting lugs 18 either before or after the bar is rolled into an annulus and embedded in an insulating hub 20, Fig. 2 (not shown), and the bridges 14 removed by machining to form separate segments. The bar 10 is advanced intermittently into a stamping machine in which the transverse grooves 12 are stamped by a die after each step. During the stamping anchoring claws 15, 16, 16<SP>1</SP> are formed by cutters and then the segment ends 17 are separated from each other by stamping and bent upwardly. Slots (22) are cut in each lug 18 into which connecting wires are fitted, preferably by dip soldering and clamped by deformation of the lugs. The insulating material is also moulded between adjacent lugs to insulate them.
