Abstract

1,160,312. Control of D.C. motors. HAMMOND & CHAMPNESS Ltd., and T. J. RIDDLESTONE. 20 Feb., 1967 [1 March, 1966], No. 8930/66. Heading H2J. [Also in Divisions E2 and G3] A shunt-wound motor 1a, which drives a liftdoor in a constant speed ratio, has its speed regulated continuously in accordance with the position of the door by means of transformer 4 whose coupling is varied by a cam-operated armature. The motor is supplied from a source of unsmoothed full-wave rectified current through silicon-controlled rectifier 14, the firing- angle of which is determined by the output from the transformer 4. This output is rectified and smoothed to control transistors T 1 , T 2 , the latter receiving a signal from resistor 20 representing the back-E.M.F. of the motor so that the amplitude of the output from transistor T 2 varies both in dependence on the signal from transistor T 1 and on the motor speed. The combined signal is amplified by transistor T 3 and then applied to the base of transistor T 4 having capacitor 22 in its emitter circuit. The signal passed on by the transistor T 4 controls a bistable circuit comprising transistors T 5 , T 6 , associated with transistors T 7 , T 8 , which effect inversion and amplification. The cam may be shaped to produce from the transformer 4 a simple harmonic output relative to the linear travel of the door, and the speed of the motor will vary in a similar manner with the shift of the firing-angle of the rectifier 14 during the door travel.
