Abstract

1,159,973. Open hearth furnaces. RHEINISCHE STAHLWERKE 24 June, 1966 [24 June, 1965], No. 28509/66. Heading F4B. A single ended regenerative open hearth furnace for the production of steel has a feeder 6 for slag formers at the head end, and an outlet 9 for slag at the other end. The slag flows over a dam 8, and the preheated air is fed to the furnace through two narrow ducts 2. Burners 15, which may also act as oxygen lances, are mounted in the furnace roof, and burners fed with cold gas or oil may be mounted at the head end. The flue gases are fed through a branched passage to flow downwards into the regenerators. A removable slag ladle 10 is mounted below the outlet 9.
