[Also in Division C3] A suspension for use in investment moulding is made by continuously and simultaneously feeding ethyl silicate, water, an organic solvent which is miscible with water and with ethyl silicate, e.g. acetone or isopropyl alcohol, and a powdered quartz filler into a common mixing vessel. The liquid constituents may be fed to the vessel either separately or as a premix made in a separate mixer and acidified with hydrochloric acid. Moulds made from the composition are dried in a mixture of air and ammonia.
