Abstract

1,159,830. Pneumatic discharge vehicles; pneumatic conveyers. UNION TANK CAR CO. 23 Dec., 1966 [20 Jan., 1966], No. 57778/66. Headings B8A and B8E. A hopper 13 comprises a bottom discharge port 15 adjacent which is at least one inlet 16a for pressurized air, a deflector-plate 17 being attached to the hopper wall 14 to define a fanshaped opening 17a through which the air is directed as a high velocity air film upwardly and across the internal surface of the wall for undermining and discharging material from the hopper. The material is granular or powdery and may be cellulose acetate, various grades of calcium carbonate or titanium dioxide, and the hopper is part of a railroad tank car 10. As described, two diametrically opposed air inlets 16d and associated deflector plates 17 are provided, and each of the latter is secured to the wall 14 by welding or bolting, a pair of spacers 18 being provided and defining therebetween a small bleeder hole 18a.
