Abstract

1,159,691. Monoazo dyestuffs and their quaternary salts. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 2 Sept., 1966 [2 Sept., 1965 (2)], No. 39274/66. Heading C4P. The invention comprises monoazo dyes of the general formula wherein R 1 is a 2-thiadiazolyl group optionally substituted in the 5-position, a 2-thiazolyl group optionally substituted in the 4- and 5-positions or a 2-benzothiazolyl group optionally substituted in the 4, 5, 6 or 7 positions, R 2 is an optionally substituted carbocyclic aryl group, e.g. phenyl, B is -N= or -CH=, and Z represents the atoms necessary to complete a heterocyclic nucleus, and their quaternary salts, quaternated at an N atom in the R 1 group. Z may contain carbon atoms, carbon and sulphur, carbon and nitrogen, carbon, nitrogen and sulphur or carbon, nitrogen and oxygen atoms. The dyes are prepared by diazotizing an appropriate 2-aminothiazole, 2-aminothiadiazole or 2-aminobenzothiazole and coupling to an appropriate coupling component, the quaternary compounds being obtained from the corresponding dyes by quaternization. The dyes give yellow, orange, red, blue and violet shades on cellulose esters, aromatic polyesters, and polyamides.
