Abstract

1,158,488. Stuffer-box crimping. TECHNISERVICE CORP. 11 Oct., 1966 [22 July, 1966], No. 45427/66. Heading D1F. A textile strand is fed into and withdrawn from a stuffer-box at constant rates at least one of which is adjustable, with the stufferbox having no strand impedance means at the exit thereof. The ratio of the strand wind-up rate to the strand feed rate determines the amount of accumulation of strand within the box and thus the crimp intensity. The strand is pre-heated using a heated chamber, bar or rolls, &c., by means of conduction, convection, or radiation. The box may be heated using a heating jacket or resistance coils. The strand is traversed alone the feed rolls of the box by passage through a housing in which an air current is reciprocated by a diaphragm vibrated by a solenoid. The chamber of the box may be of steel coated with tetrafluoroethylene.
