Abstract
1,158,476. Surgical masks. E. A. ANDERSSON and B. A. E. ANDERSSON. 15 Dec., 1966 [30 Dec., 1965], No. 56291/66. Headings A5R and A5T. A mouth cover of flexible material (which cover is primarily intended for doctors, dentists, nurses and the like) comprises a shield 46 which has an upper edge arranged to seal over the nose and the adjacent portions of the face of a wearer in use and which is arranged to extend downwards at a distance in front of the nose and mouth to a lower edge, a bottom wall 47 having a front edge which is joined to the lower edge of the .shield and a rear edge arranged to seal against the lower surface of the jaw of the wearer in use, and an inner wall 42 which extends from the upper edge of the shield to the bottom wall and which is formed with an opening for the nose and mouth and is arranged to rest against the face of the wearer in use, the junction between the bottom wall and the shield being spaced in front of the jaw and extending obliquely to the rear on both sides at a distance from the face of the wearer and the inner wall whereby substantially all the exhaled air is guided obliquely rearwards by the shield and the bottom wall. The opening in the inner wall 42 may be covered by one or more layers of gauze. The mouth cover may be made in one piece, for example as a pressing from a resilient plastic foil or paper, and subsequently folded and erected into its position of use. Alternatively, the mouth cover may be made from cloth. Preferably, however, the mouth cover is made from a moistureresistant material.
