Abstract

1,157,691. Electric timepieces. R.W. REICH. July 20, 1966 [July 26, 1965], No.32561/66. Heading G3T. [Also in Division H3] In an oscillator circuit for clocks having two complementary transistors 1, 5 each having its emitter connected to a different supply terminal, a resistor-capacitor timing circuit 7, 8 and 6 is connected to cause the transistor 5 to conduct when the voltage across the capacitor has reached a predetermined value, this causes the transistor 1 to conduct to produce an output pulse in a collector coil 2, the timing circuit is responsive to conduction of the transistor 1 to cut-off both the transistors and end the output pulse and means is provided to limit the maximum voltage of the output pulses to a predetermined magnitude. As shown the output pulse is limited by a Zener diode 11. Also the charging voltage for capacitor 6 may be stabilized by a Zener diode 12. Resistor 8 provides variation of the oscillator frequency and the resistors 7 or 9 may have negative temperature coefficients as may a resistor which can be connected in parallel with the capacitor 6 so as to reduce the effect of temperature on the circuit. The resistors 3, 9 may be replaced by diodes 4, 10, alternatively resistor 9 may be replaced by a capacitor to alter the conductive and non-conductive periods of the transistor 1. The oscillator may be connected to an A.C. supply and may oscillate at a frequency lower than the supply. The circuit may be connected to a high voltage supply by including suitable resistors in the base and collector leads or by supplying the circuit from a tapping on a voltage divider connected across the high voltage supply. A capacitor may be connected across the coil 2 to prevent self oscillation. The oscillator may provide timing pulses, drive on impulsing mechanism of a timer having seconds and minute and hour wheels or activate relay operated controls.
