Two bullet-proof glass shutters 15 1 , 15 2 separately hinged at 18 so as to hang down at 45 degrees to prevent passage of articles across a counter at 1, each have an attached cam 17 1 , 17 2 , having a linear operating surface 19 and a curved locking surface 20. Movement of lever 3 and link 6 to the left allows shutter 15 2 to obstruct passage and moves lever 8 carrying two grooved rollers 11 engaging the cam surfaces whereby one roller lifts shutter 15 1 by moving along linear surface to an end stop, the other roller moving along the curved surface 20 to lock the shutter 15 2 in its passage obstructing position. Movement of lever 3 to the right, locks shutter 15 1 in its lowered position and opens shutter 15 2 whereby articles placed under the shutters from one side are retrievable from the other side. Helical tension and compression springs may balance the weight of the shutters.
