Abstract

1,156,943. Coated lead chromate. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 4 Oct., 1966 [5 Oct., 1965; 8 June, 1966], No. 44296/66. Heading C1A. [Also in Divisions C3 and C4] Lead chromate is coated with dense amorphous silica by adding an aqueous solution of active silica to an aqueous suspension of lead chromate of pH >7 at above 60‹ C. The silica constitutes at least 2%, generally up to 40%, by weight of the modified pigment. The silicacoated pigment may be further coated with alumina by heating the suspension with an aqueous solution of an aluminium compound. The active silica is precipitated from an added solution of silicic acid or the in situ reaction of sodium silicate and sulphuric acid.
