Abstract
1,156,771. Electrophonic musical instruments. ALLEN ORGAN CO. 22 Nov., 1966, No. 52291/66. Heading G5J. In a keyboard electrophonic instrument each key controls a vibrating mechanical switch controlling the output of a corresponding tone generator. As shown depression of a playing key 24 releases a stressed spring 32 carrying a weight 38. Until the key is released, the spring vibrates repeatedly opening and closing contacts 42 and 50. The contacts connect the power supply to the tone generator and give a reiterative effect as in a xylophone, marimba or mandolin. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) a spring is carried on each key and carries at its free end, contact members which connect fixed contacts. The contact members which may correspond in size to the note to be sounded can be heard to impact the fixed contacts. The clicking sound produced is similar to that produced when a plectrum contacts the strings of a mandolin. In a further modification, the springs are pivoted by solenoids electrically operated by the keys.
