Abstract
1,156,657. Dental posts. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 5 July, 1966 [20 July, 1965], No. 30818/65. Heading A5R. A blank which may be shaped to provide a dental peg comprises a cylindrical post A and a head C, a shoulder D between the post and the head having two parallel opposed straight edges E forming part of two flat surfaces F on the head which are parallel to each other and' to the axis of the post, the length of the head, in the direction of the said axis, being substantially greater than the distance between the two flat surfaces, the blank being formed from a single piece of strong wrought metal having a high corrosion resistance. As shown, the head C is approximately firusto-conical and is shaped by the dentist before use (suitably shaped heads are illustrated in Figures 3A, 3B, not shown) to receive a tooth crown. An alternative blank (Figure 2. not shown) has a head of a rectangular shape from which one corner has been removed. The cylindrical post A may be formed with grooves B to aid in keying with cement in the toath root and the sizes of suitable blanks are exemplified. In applying the shaped peg, the tooth root is also shaped (Figure 4, not shown) to mate with the flat surfaces F on the head C.
