Abstract
1,156,101. Sheet forming. AMERICAN PACKAGING CORP. 9 Dec., 1966 [13 Jan., 1966], No. 55331/66. Heading B5A. [Also in Division B8] Packaging containers, of the type comprising an apertured card covered by a plastic sheet material part of which is drawn through the aperture, are formed on a cooled suction drum 400, which drum comprises four mould carrying plates 402 mounted upon a hollow inner member itself mounted upon a rotatable shaft 412. Cooling radium is introduced into the interior of the drum through bores 423 and 426 and is removed through bores 428 and pipe 429. The cards are pressed against the plate 402, with their apertures in register with moulding cavities 453, by a series of tensioned belts 458 and the cavities first connected to vacuum to perform the forming operation and then to compressed air to eject the formed cards on to a take-off conveyer 40. In operation, cards are fed from a magazine 120 to a conveyer 300 by a series of rotatary suction arms mounted when reciprocable columns 208. The cards are forwarded along the conveyer over or between gas burners 362 and are then transferred to the suction drum on which the heat softened plastic sheet is formed to the desired shape. Rotation of the drum brings the shaped cards to a position over the conveyer 40 on to which they are ejected.
