Abstract

[Also in Division H5] Flexible tubing comprises an inner tubular fluid transmitting line (10), electric heating wires (12) surrounding line (10), a filler layer (18, 30 or 40) surrounding wires (12) and line (10), and an outer flexible plastics layer (22 or 38), there being a thermo-barrier layer consisting of said filler layer or an additional layer between line (10) and the plastics layer. In one form (Figs. 1, 2) the thermo-barrier layer (18) comprises a layer of flexible polyurethane foam, said layer being wrapped with an impervious polymeric film tape (21) of a polyethylene terephthalate polyester, and encompassed by an outer layer (22) of P.V.C., polyethylene, polyurethane, neoprene, PTFE. In another form (Figs. 3, 4), the filler layer (30) is of jute, and is wrapped with a thermo-barrier tape (32) of laminated asbestos polyester (e.g. a polyethylene terephthalate) tape and encompassed by a layer (33), of P.V.C., a corrugated flexible steel layer (36) and an outer layer (38) of P.V.C. In a further form (Fig. 5), a thermo-barrier filler layer (40) of polyurethane foam is encompassed by a plastics layer (33), a metal layer (36) and an outer plastics layer (38). Line (10) is of stainless steel, PTFE, or nylon, and wires (12) of Ni-Cr insulated with a polymeric tape, e.g. PTFE, covered with fibre-glass braid (13) are bound thereto by nylon strands (16).
