Abstract

1,155,762. Baseboard for model railways. D. PIEL. 18 Jan., 1967 [20 Jan., 1966], No. 2718/67. Heading A65. [Also in Divisions B5, G5 and H2] A base board for a toy such as an electric railway (see Division H2) comprises a laminate formed of two conducting layers sandwiched between three insulating layers and a connector having two pins adapted to pierce the laminate and make electrical contact one with each conductive layer. In the laminated board described each conductive layer comprises a fine mesh screen formed of copper, aluminium, .copper coated steel or steel wires superimposed on an aluminium or copper foil, and each insulating layer is a plastics foam sheet. One form of connector (Fig. 3e) has two tapered terminal pins 74, 75 the longer one 75 of which carries an insulating coating or sleeve 76. The connector can be pushed into, the board, at any point causing the shorter pin to pierce and. make contact with the first conductive layer, and the longer pin to pass through this layer in insulating fashion and make contact with the second layer. The connector is shown as a tie 'bar for making electrical connection to the rails of each section of a model railway or slot car layout. A battery holder having connecting pins similar to the pins 74, 75 is also described. The board may include a third conductive layer, a D.C. potential being provided' between the first and and second conductive layers and an A.C. potential being provided between the second and third conductive layers. A further conductive layer in the form of an earth may be provided on the top surface of the board.
