Abstract

1,155,672. Automatic frequency control systems. PYE Ltd. 2 May, 1968 [12 May, 1967], No. 22229/67. Heading H3A. In an automatic frequency control oscillator circuit having a Lecher bar L1, Fig. 2 and variable capacitor C 2 as the primary frequency determining elements, the effective tuning capacity includes at least a proportion of the capacitance of a serially connected variable reactance device D and a further variable capacitor C 4 varying in capacitance as the first mentioned variable capacitor varies in capacitance. As shown, the reactance device D comprises a varactor diode, variable capacitor C2 is shunted by a trimmed capacitor C 1 , and variable capacitors C 1 , C 4 are ganged: diode D is connected to a tapping point on Lecher bar L 1 . In a construction, the stator plates F, Fig. 3, of capacitor C 2 are attached to and supported by a metallic band B 1 surrounding an insulating support ST, band B 1 forming one plate of tubular trimmer capacitor C 1 incorporated in support ST. Stator plate FA o f capacitor C 4 is attached to and supported by metallic band B 2 surrounding insulating support SA: the rotor plate of this capacitor may comprise the end rotor plate M of capacitor C2 together with an additional optional rotor plate MA. The latter may be provided with peripheral slots to allow of precise adjustment at a number of points in the tuning range.
