Abstract
1,155,437. Packages. O. TAPIOVAARA. 9 Sept., 1966 [10 Sept., 1965] No. 40374/66. Heading B8C. Packages are formed from a flexible plastics web 2, stiffened at intervals by means of elements 3, e.g. of cardboard, paper, plastics or metal, the web being constricted and cut between the elements 3 after it has been seamed longitudinally and filled. The web 2 is fed from a supply 11 and wrapped around a filling tube 12, the element 3 being on the outer side of the web. The side edges of the packaging material are seamed together at 13, e.g. by welding, and the bottom of a package is formed at the end of the filling tube by twisting a lower filled but unsealed package 15 to constrict the web between it and the partially formed package above, the constriction 16 also forming the top closure for the lower package. A heating wire 17 seals and cuts the constriction to separate the package 15 from the one above, which is then filled. The end panels may be pushed into the package (as shown at the lower end of Fig. 2) to facilitate stacking. Part of the web 2 at the top of the package may be torn to provide a spout 19. The elements 3 may be scored to form top, bottom and side panels, Figs. 6A-6D (not shown). The top and bottom panels may be missing, or the bottom panels may comprise separate triangular portions. Alternatively, the top panels only may be missing, in which case the web 2 is folded over the upper edge of the wall panels and a separate cover (23), Fig. 4 (not shown), is attached with a tear-strip. The package may be of hexagonal or other polygonal cross-section; or of circular or oblong crosssection.
