Abstract

1,154,604. Suction cleaners. ELECTROLUX Ltd. 25 Nov., 1966 [26 Oct., 1966], No. 52803/66. Heading A4F. [Also in Division B1] A suction cleaner of the type having an elongated upstanding handle 5 pivotally connected to a casing 2 movable over a surface to be cleaned is provided with a dust collector comprising an outer rigid box 8 containing a paper pag 10, and carried by the handle 5, the dust carrying airstream passing through the handle 5 to the dust collector via a tube 3 projecting into the box 8, the tube 3 and the box 8 being mounted for relative displacement to permit their separation. The tube 13 fits over a projecting collar 17 on the handle 5 and is formed integrally with the lid 23 of the box 8. The box 8 is secured to the lid 23 by a line 28 and has brackets 17 thereon which are slidable on the handle 5, so that when the line 28 is released the box 8 may be lowered and pivoted about the handle 5 for removal or replacement of the paper bag 10. The latter comprises a pleated tube the lower open end 21A of which is folded over and clamped by a clip 21B. The upper end 21C of the bag is stuck to the underside of a cardboard top 22, Fig. 12, and the end 14 of the elbow portion 13 penertates into the paper bag through an oval hole 22A in the cardboard top 22, and through the top of the bag, slits 22B being cut in the latter to facilitate penetration of the end 14. The exhaust opening 9 of the box 8 is in the form of a grill inside which is mounted a secondary filter comprising a sheet of a cellulose-plastics filter material bonded to a polyethylene frame.
