Abstract
1,154,187. Actuating brakes; balance bars. GIRLING Ltd. 15 May, 1968 [15 May, 1967], No. 22428/67. Heading F2E. A balance bar linkage for mechanical brakes is made from sheet metal stampings and comprises a balance bar 9 with a shackle 16 which in use is connected by cable or pull rod to the handbrake and the ends of bar are connected to the respective wheel brakes. The bar is pivoted as shown on a swinging T-shaped link 6 which is itself pivoted in a fixed bracket 1. The link 6 is biased by a wire spring 8 against the upper pivot surface and the bar 9 may be held against the upper shoulders on the link by a spring washer (14), Fig. 4 (not shown). The swinging link 6 may provide increased leverage in operation as illustrated in Fig. 5.
