Abstract

1,153,054. Carbon packing rings. SCHUNK & EBE G.m.b.H. 5 Sept., 1966 [4 Sept., 1965], No. 39660/66. Heading C1A. The manufacture of packing rings comprises mixing pulverulent solid material, a portion of which is formed by a friction reducing material, with a hardenable and carbonizable resin, simultaneously pressing and hardening (curing) the mixture and thereafter carbonizing. Suitable solids are coke, graphite and metals. Suitable friction reducing materials are graphite, talc and molybdenum disulphide. Suitable resins are phenol resins, cresol resins, melamine resins and furfural resins. Examples show the use of a graphite and a cresol-phenol resin, and (2) petroleum coke powder, talc and a phenol resin.
