Abstract
1,152,967. Incinerators. VON ROLL A.G. 29 Feb., 1968, No. 9960/68. Heading F4B. A system for the simultaneous combustion of both sludge and refuse includes a refuse burning furnace 1, the hot combustion gases from which, on their way to electrostatic precipitator 3 are divided into three flow paths. One path, through duct 17 leads directly to precipitator 3, a second passes through duct 23 and sludge burning furnace 2 to help in the combustion of concentrated sludge and recycled ash which are passed through the furnace 2 in countercurrent to the hot gas flow, and the third path includes duct 18 and a Venturi scrubber or spray tower 15 in which water from wet sewage sludge from tank 13, is driven off, before the thus concentrated sludge is passed by pump 24 to the furnace 2. The gas flows through the various paths are controlled by dampers 20, 27 in dependence on the gas temperature at the inlet to the precipitator 3 measured by element 21.
