Abstract

1,152,961. Securing reels on arbors. SYNCRO MACHINE CO. 1 Jan., 1968 [4 Jan., 1969] No. 187/68. Heading F2U. A reel 60 is clamped on an arbor 11 by expanding rings 25, 27 separated by a spacing sleeve 26 having bevelled ends 34, 35 cooperating with the rings, an end cap 28 being moved axially on tightening a screw 23 to expand the rings. Ring 25 also co-operates with a bevelled shoulder of the arbor, so that it is expanded before the ring 27. The spacing sleeve 26 is slit longitudinally at 36, 37 so that its ends contract on to the arbor. To prevent the reel slipping off the arbor, while operating at spooling speed, due to insufficient tightening of the assembly, safety latches 50 are pivoted offcentre in slots 47 in the end cap and pivot outwardly under centrifugal force to prevent removal of the reel. The latches are spring- biased inwardly.
